At Houston Sleep Health, we believe that better sleep is fundamental to better health.
Request an appointmentSleep disorders can affect nearly every aspect of your life from your energy and concentration to your mood, relationships, cardiovascular health, and overall well-being. Yet many people live for years with symptoms they have come to accept as normal.
Houston Sleep Health is a physician-led sleep medicine practice dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders through personalized, evidence-based care.
We are here to change that.
Our goal isn’t simply to diagnose a sleep disorder. It’s to understand how your sleep is affecting your health and help you find a treatment approach that works for you.
Houston Sleep Health is owned by Dr. Raj Kakar, a snoring and sleep apnea specialist dedicated to helping patients improve their sleep and overall quality of life.
A board-certified sleep medicine physician, Dr. Kakar completed fellowship training at the Stanford University Sleep Center of Excellence. His background in internal medicine informs his understanding of how sleep problems can affect cardiovascular, metabolic, and cognitive health.
His areas of expertise include snoring, sleep apnea, insomnia, chronic fatigue, daytime sleepiness, and narcolepsy. At Houston Sleep Health, that expertise supports personalized evaluation, clear explanations, and care tailored to each patient’s needs.
At Houston Sleep Health, our philosophy is simple — patient care comes first. Our team works closely with every patient to understand their specific sleep concerns and provide clear guidance on the best treatment options available.
We believe that patients should be empowered to make informed decisions about their health. Our experienced specialists carefully evaluate each case and develop personalized treatment plans that are easy to understand and tailored to individual needs.
Our team is highly experienced in diagnosing and treating a wide range of sleep disorders, including:
Sleep medicine has changed dramatically over the past several years.
While CPAP remains an important and highly effective treatment for obstructive sleep apnea, it isn't the right solution for every patient and successful sleep care involves much more than prescribing a CPAP machine.
At Houston Sleep Health, we take a comprehensive approach to sleep disorders and consider the full range of appropriate treatment options, including:
Our physicians work with you to understand your diagnosis and explain your options so that you can make informed decisions about your care.
Your sleep is personal, and your treatment should be too.
We believe patients deserve more than a quick diagnosis and a prescription. You deserve a physician who listens, explains the options, answers your questions, and remains involved throughout your treatment.
Our approach is built around four principles:
Talk to our teamWe take the time to understand your symptoms, concerns, lifestyle, and treatment goals.
Accurate diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment. We use appropriate sleep testing and clinical evaluation to determine what is happening while you sleep.
There is no universal treatment for sleep disorders. We consider your individual circumstances when developing your treatment plan.
Sleep treatment is an ongoing process. We remain available to help you overcome challenges, optimize treatment, and achieve lasting results.
For patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, we believe in providing access to the full spectrum of appropriate treatment options.
Depending on your diagnosis and individual circumstances, treatment may include:
A proven treatment that helps keep the airway open during sleep. Our team explains your PAP therapy options, helps you get started with treatment, and provides ongoing guidance to address challenges and support a routine that works for you.
A comfortable, convenient alternative for appropriately selected patients. Our team helps you understand whether oral appliance therapy may fit your diagnosis, treatment goals, and preferences, with personalized guidance and follow-up to assess your progress and support your ongoing sleep care.
For appropriate patients, weight loss can be an important component of improving sleep apnea and overall health. Medications such as GLP-1 therapies may be considered when medically appropriate.
An advanced treatment option for selected patients who are unable to use CPAP successfully.
In some cases, combining treatments can provide better results than relying on a single approach.
Our job is not to tell every patient to use the same treatment. Our job is to determine which treatment or combination of treatments is most appropriate for you.
Obstructive sleep apnea is one of the most common sleep disorders, but it is not the only one.
Our practice evaluates and treats a broad range of sleep-related conditions, including:
Interrupted breathing during sleep can cause snoring, fragmented sleep, daytime fatigue, and other health consequences.
Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or getting restorative sleep can have a profound impact on daily life.
Persistent sleepiness may be a sign of an underlying sleep disorder and should not simply be accepted as part of everyday life.
Uncomfortable sensations, abnormal movements, unusual behaviors during sleep, and other symptoms can interfere with restorative sleep.
At Houston Sleep Health, we are committed to providing care that is:
We use established medical science and current treatment approaches to guide our recommendations.
Your diagnosis, health, anatomy, lifestyle, and preferences all matter.
We explain your diagnosis and treatment options clearly, including the benefits and limitations of each approach.
